SOAFEE
Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge — the Arm project defining an open standard for software-defined vehicles. I worked on enabling the development platform ADLINK built for it.
A car is becoming a computer that drives, and the software stack underneath it had no common ground — every automaker, every tier-one supplier, every silicon vendor building their own. SOAFEE is the attempt at a shared one: cloud-native tooling and container orchestration brought together with automotive functional safety, which had not been done before.
ADLINK built the development platform, on Ampere Altra, so a developer can build and deploy on the same machine rather than cross-compiling and cross-debugging against a target they cannot see. The reference stack is ROS 2 with Autoware, Cyclone DDS and iceoryx underneath, Zenoh for vehicle-to- everything.
My role was platform enablement rather than architecture — making the thing reachable and usable by developers outside the companies that designed it. That is the recurring job across everything on this page: the specification and the silicon are necessary, and neither of them is what makes a developer able to start.
